Job Description

 

The Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities of the Houston Fabrication shop. Responsibilities include instructing skilled and semi-skilled employees in performing their assigned work performing various manufacturing, maintenance and repair work on oilfield drilling equipment in a shop environment; monitoring completion of work; ensuring that necessary equipment and personnel are assigned to the job and monitoring high-risk activities to ensure safety practices are followed. This position will provide on-site support with manufacturing activities as determined by the Fabrication Manager.

 

This position will work under the direction of the Fabrication Shop Manager. Applicants must have hands – on experience with packaged equipment for the Oil & Gas Industry.

 

Detailed Description

  • Exercise supervisory duties such as training, disciplining and recognizing extraordinary performances by subordinates
  • Ensure efficient maintenance of the Fabrication Shop by keeping all machine/tools properly certified and calibrated and conducting daily inspections to ensure the safe and cleanly appearance of the fabrication shop
  • Meet and/or exceed company metrics including Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery
  • Read and interpret drawings allowing manufacturing to build to the design intent
  • Monitor raw materials and all shop supplies to ensure material is ready when required
  • Manage all incoming items for fabrication shop such as, raw materials, components, parts, hardware, etc.
  • Monitor, report, and maintain an appropriate level of spare and replacement parts inventory to support shop operations in tool room and supply room
  • Coordinate parts and equipment delivery for shop and any third party contractors
  • Provide timely reports on all shop projects and repairs with estimated completion time(s)
  • Provide expected delivery times on all items being fabricated and repaired that the fabrication shop is managing
  • Coordinate the proper utilization of third party contractors and service through the Fabrication Manager
  • Supervise shop maintenance personnel on a daily basis to provide work order assignments and required materials for job completion to maintain a minimal work order backlog
  • Supervise fabrication personnel quality of life issues and third party utilization
  • Ensure fabrication personnel are performing all actions in accordance with Company standards to include safety, conduct, and proper use of company resources
  • Schedule and instruct technical training related to operational and technical maintenance levels
  • Identify training needs required in the shop operations and assist in developing training material as needed
  • Ensure competency of technicians performing any third party services such as Non Destructive Testing and others

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience fabricating multiple types of structures,vessels, piping and other oil/gas field equipment
  • Knowledge and familiarity with industry and quality standards
  • Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Ability to read and follow Welding Procedures
  • Strong computer skills within MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively lead, manage, and develop fabricators and other staff to drive individual performance goals and ensure overall performance aligns with Company standards
  • Ability to lead by example and be a good mentor to junior employees
  • Ability to create a safe environment and respond to emergency situations
  • Maintain professional demeanor in all situations and with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, employees, customers and third parties
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during manufacturing in the shop and operational work areas
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times
  • Stay alert and remain focused even during occasional extended work periods
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills and ability to promptly give, and follow directions
  • Must be willing to work extended schedules as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in fabrication of heavy steel items
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical training or advanced education in a relevant vocational field
  • Welding Inspection background

 

Additional Details

The Shop Supervisor must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. The typical work environment will be in the shop or lay out yard which will require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, heavy lifting equipment and vibration.

Job Description

Summary: Creates mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic designs for new product parts, subassemblies, assemblies or system configurations using 3-D CAD Systems and works with little to no supervision.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Supports the department by studying engineering sketches, specifications, and supporting documents; modeling, designs, details, documents, and verifies mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic parts, subassemblies and assemblies with all levels of complexity

 

  • Ensures adherence to quality and cost parameters of the project

 

  • Depicts relationships of components and parts, identifies dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances and materials to abide by department standards

 

  • Prepares pressure vessel calculations with little to no guidance from engineer using pressure vessel software

 

  • Prepares Bills of Material and specifications; creates full package documentation required

 

  • Makes various calculations and frequently uses charts and tables to accommodate the design process

 

  • Analyzes the effect of proposed changes for proper form, fit and function; recommends solutions regarding cost saving design practices and procedures as related to the project; modifies drawings and model as required; confers with engineers to resolve issues and offers alternate solutions

 

  • Maintains technical knowledge by conferring with technical staff advisors, suppliers and industry specialists

 

  • Proficient 3-D CAD design; proficient using complete Microsoft Suite

 

  • Meets any and all deadlines as required by project schedule and assists other Designers to meet their deadlines

 

Required Education/Experience:

 

  • Associates Degree or Technical School Training in Computer Aided

 

  • Good organizational and planning skills

 

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions

 

  • Strong creative ability to design and develop mechanical/electrical/electronic equipment

 

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communications

 

  • Requires thorough knowledge of drafting standards

 

Preferred Education/Experience:

 

  • Experience in related industry

 

  • Working knowledge in compression, power generation, or oil and gas industry

 

Physical Strain:

 

  • Standard requirements. Bending, squatting, climbing, stooping, twisting and reaching will all be required occasionally in this position

 

  • Sitting for long periods of time

 

  • Lifting 10 pounds maximum with occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds

 

  • Must meet all OSHA regulations and must wear all required PPE when in the shop environment
